Greg Binford and David Brin team up to bring you “Heart of the comet” a sci-fi adventure where all I can say is wow. In the future, not too far into the future, we send astronauts to the Halley’s Comet. The astronauts are set to guide the comet and use it to come back to earth and use its resources or go out the deep space I kinda got lost in that part, but it doesn’t happen. Come to find out there is life on Halley’s comet and earth does not want to be infected so they reject all the astronauts and all the people that are living on the comet. They travel decades through Cryo-sleep. Making this book last 100 years with the travel time.

The use of different voices for the different sections of the books nearly makes it as if this were an audio drama.

Time travel, space travel, new life forms, politics all create one of the best sci-fi books i’ve read in a while

Publisher’s Summary

Gregory Benford and David Brin come together in this bold collaboration about our near human future in space.

Prescient and scientifically accurate, Heart of the Comet is known as one of the great hard SF novels of the 1980s. First published in 1986, it tells the story of an ambitious manned mission to visit Halley’s Comet, alter its orbit, and mine it for resources. But all too soon, native cells – that might once have brought life to Earth – begin colonizing the colonists. As factions battle over the comet’s future – and that of Earth – only love, courage, and ingenuity can avert disaster and spark a new human destiny.
